DAIVARADHANE🌸

The commonly worshiped ghosts can be broadly classified into three categories. A ghost in animal form, a ghost deified after a man's death, a ghost of figures selected from mythology.

Tiger, Boar, Nandi, Kona etc. (Pilichandi, Panjurli, Maisandaya) animals are worshiped as the first category. Persons like Jumati, Kalkuda-Kalkurkur, Koti-Channaya, Kuzumba-Kanja, Kantabare-Buddha, etc., performed heroic deeds when they were human, died untimely and later became deities and were worshiped as ghosts. These fall into the second category. Deities like Kodamanittaya, Kikkunantaya, Sivattaya, Annappa, Adkattaya etc. can also be included in this group. In Tulunad, the deity called Berme is the counterpart of Brahma. While the direction of Veda-Brahman is in one order, the deity Berme is worshiped as Bhoota-Brahman in the other. He has four faces and four hands, holding sword, rubber skull and dagger in his hands. "Bemmer" is the original god of the Tulvas.
